inspiration board: industrial glam

I don't know about you, but it seems like it's engagement season in my side of the world. So you know what that means -- more weddings!

I have the great honor to work on my co-worker, Michelle, and her fiance, Walt's wedding this upcoming June.  I always enjoy the designing and creative process for an event, especially for a wedding (since I often don't have the time to bc I'm juggling a full-time job).  Visiting linen warehouses, rental showrooms, site walkthroughs, etc. -- the real joy comes in seeing all the inspiration come together.

Michelle and Walt chose the Art Share, L.A. a local gallery downtown with a very industrial feel.  Using a color scheme of taupe, gold, and greys, along with string lights and lots of metallic fringe, we're going transform this art gallery into a fun party atmosphere as we celebrate these two! Below is a sneak peek into what we have planned. Stay tuned for the wedding!

love and football

This Sunday is the day that the Packers and the Steelers play in a (hopefully) epic game of football. Or as this picture shows -- Clay Matthew dominating the Steelers. 

In preparation for the SuperBowl, and as a football lover myself, I thought I'd gather some inspiration from one of my favorite sports.

Here's what I found --

If you want to carry the theme all the way through your wedding, have your officiant dress like a referee.  And instead of a floral archway that you're standing under as you exchange vows, make it a goal post.

Party favors anyone?

Stadium cake

I wonder how many people this cake can feed...

One trend that was seen towards the end of last year was the rise of sliders and "comfort food" at events instead of having your filet of fish or grilled chicken dish.  Use these as your appetizers, couple it with some sweet potato fries and beer, and your guests will feel like they're back at the stadium.

The stadium cake doesn't really need a cake topper, but for all the non-stadium cakes, here are some of my favorites!

A couple of my friends incorporated football into their engagement photos.  It really captured their love for football and each other!

Just because you're in a wedding dress doesn't mean you can't play a little pick-up game of football on your special day  Or take some pictures on the field.

inspiration: Home Depot

It's not everyday that I walk into Home Depot and find inspiration for weddings.  Nor do I walk into Home Depot, really, ever.  Maybe I should start checking out hardware stores more often -- I may find some hidden gems.  So the other day I went with a friend to Home Depot to simply get some nails to hang up some pictures in my house.  Nothing special.  My friend, on the other hand, was looking for something more unique: chalkboard paint. 

I had always heard of it -- but I don't think the excitement of the paint really hit me until I saw it.  Not only did they have classic black chalkboard paint, but they also had one you could tint different colors!  Legit.  If you know me at all, I get excited about, well, pretty much everything.  Literally, it does not take much.

Anyways, I was inspired to share all the creatives ways you can use this paint in your event or wedding -- menus, favors, signage, escort cards, table numbers.  It's a great (and cheap!) DIY project for a bride on a budget.  Simply find someone with cool handwriting and you're in business!

I absolutely love these escort cards!  So creative!

Spice up a black background with bright chalk colors!
